Sony does not hold back with any technologies, and the XBR series is its flagship line–so with the XBR, you know you’ll get the best quality home theater experience available.
Sony complements the high resolution with the latest technology in color reproduction. The KDL-40XBR is a 10-bit display with 10-bit processing. Most panels are only 8-bit. The added bit depth here means a larger color palette for more faithful color reproduction and smoother transitions from one color to the next. Additionally, the display also supports the new x.v.Color standard, which dramatically increases the available color space. The end result is a picture that is so detailed, colorful, and vibrant, you’d have a hard time distinguishing it from real life.
The KDL-40XBR4 features Sony’s Motionflow technology, which automatically adjusts for and applies the proper processing for optimal motion reproduction depending on the video input. This includes support for 24 frames per second (24p) video, which displays video content at the 24-frames-per-second rate at which it was originally filmed or recorded. With 24p, you get the most faithful possible reproduction of the original.

A Dice Roll – Winscape Impartial Reviews – Laguna Beach, CA United States A lot of potential problems with this model. We have had three various Sony products, and none have lasted longer than a year and a half. Our advice is to look elsewhere.
Great when it works. LOUSY Sony customer service!!! – CPD – CT USA Be very careful. I purchased both 46″ and 40″ XBR4. Great picture but chip sets in each TV have had to be replaced. First chip set was within one year warranty. Second chip set was one month out of warranty and Sony refused to honor warranty until multiple communications from dealer and from authorized repair facility at which point (after 15 phone calls and two months) they finally agreed to pay for 0 of a 0 repair. Problems revolved around HDMI connections (which we originally thought was a handshake issue) Great product when it works, but dreadful customer service, suggesting buyer beware or at very least consider extended warranty.
Buyer Beware – Julie from PA – Allentown, PA We purchased this television one year ago today. It has not worked for two months. We have spent endless hours with the Customer Service Dept on the phone. The parts (computer & panel) just went out on it for no reason. They do not have the parts to fix the television. They offered us a refurbished TV (someone elses problem TV) which we declined. If you take the refurbished TV, our warranty and extended warranty are null and void. We wanted ours fixed. Customer Service (India I suppose) lied numerous times regarding the delivery date of the parts. We went from “the Authorized Dealer will receive the part in 2 days” to “it is backordered until the end of February”. They offered us a brand new xbr6 television replacement for an additional 0.00. They said it would be here within two weeks. No sight of that. Sony Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with, a bunch of liars. If you get lucky and get a TV with no problems, then you are good. I advise against buying any Sony products. I know I won’t.

Sharp AQUOS LC40LE700UN 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Review
I bought this TV because I wanted two things: a good-quality picture, and the ability to play game consoles without any noticeable lag. This TV does both very well. It has stunning picture quality, and the game mode handles my old 480i XBox console, connected via component inputs, with no noticeable lag.
On the downside picture-wise, I am not 100% satisfied with how the TV reproduces mostly-dark levels. Black is plenty black, but dark gray, dark blue, dark brown, etc. also get “sucked” into black. The average person probably wouldn’t be bothered by this, but it can be a little annoying to the discerning eye. Adjusting contrast and brightness helps, but only at the expense of lightening the deep blacks. If you love sharp contrast between dark and light, you’ll love this TV. If you’re picky and want to see, for example, details in shadows, give this TV a test-run before buying it.
I was quite surprised to see that this TV lacks two of the most basic functions of a TV: it has no clock, and the remote has no program guide button. Obviously, this TV is intended for people who have satellite/cable since those services have programming guides. But over-the-air digital TV also broadcasts program information, and there’s no way to access that information on this TV. So if you watch over-the-air TV, you’ll still need to have a clock and a TV Guide nearby.
Despite these drawbacks, I’m giving this TV 4 stars because of the excellent picture quality overall, and how well it handles my antiquated game console.

Sharp AQUOS LC40LE700UN 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Overview
With the introduction of the LC40LE700UN, Sharp combines its legendary AQUOS LCD panel technology with a newly developed, proprietary Full Array LED backlight system to create picture quality that is second to none. The LC40LE700UN illustrates Sharp’s LCD technology leadership while also demonstrating its LED engineering advantages. Sharp’s Ultra Brilliant LED system illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness and contrast levels and enables significant environmental benefits such as longer life expectancy, no heavy metals and lower power consumption. At the same time, the new XGen LCD Panel utilizes an ingeniously devised pixel design that permits more light to pass through even while minimizing light leakage, with the result being the deepest black levels that AQUOS has ever achieved. Overall, the LC40LE700UN shows that with Sharp, it’s not just LED… it’s AQUOS LED.

40 Inch Sharp Aquous is outstanding – Steven Isler – This HDTV is terrific in every way. It was easy to assemble, has a terrific look and a wonderful picture!
Uncertain start – Mits Kawagoye – When the AMP error first appeared, I didn’t know what it referred to. Amplifier was the first thought but then I thought it could also be AMPs on the power line. I finally asked [...]. They immediately contacted their local agent, Geo Meyers, and the service was immediate. They brought two replacement boards with them but neither worked. They arranged for another appointment. The next time they brought another board. No luck. They suggested and I agreed that it would make more sense for them to take it into the shop. They brought it back within two working days. This was all done under the 90-day warranty. They made three trips(not short)but they did it willingly and were always in touch with me by phone for any news. I must first compliment Sharp for providing such prompt service. The TV seems to be working well but I’ve not used it for a full week yet. From time of purchase to actual delivery was longer than expected, almost two weeks(but it was free!) It’s taken almost another two weeks for the TV to actually be enjoyed. If I encounter no more problems, it was a great bargain. I could write a better review in six months.
great picture – Karen – WA I had a Samsung LCD tv that died so I needed something to replace it. After checking with Consumer Reports I went with this one. It’s one of their top rated and I agree. After checking around I found the lowest price at Amazon. com. My Samsung used to get hot quickly and the Aquos doesn’t heat up at all. I’m still trying to figure out all the settings but that’s my fault, not the tv’s. The picture quality is great. I would recommend it.

Samsung LNT4053H 40-Inch LCD HDTV Review
This was probably one of my best purchases from Amazon. Not only did I get a great deal, but I also got an amazing TV. I did my research before buying and it always seemed to come back to Samsung for the best LCD’s in both picture and service. Originally we wanted something 42″ or larger, but eventually decided on this 40″ model.
Delivery and set up was quick and easy. The shipping company CEVA called me the day before delivery to set up a time and I was impressed the following morning when they were actually in my driveway a few minutes early. The brought it in, unpacked it, moved it to my desired location, made sure that the remote worked and that it was receiving a picture. Definitely A+ service!
As for the TV itself? It was and still is as nice as I had hoped. The picture quality is clear, the sound is true and it looks beautiful. Besides watching TV, one of the features I’ve enjoyed are the A/V connections on the side which have allowed me to plug in my camera or camcorder for quick viewing on a large screen. It also has been fun to play our Nintendo Wii on. We started out with this in our Family/TV room, but recently moved it to our Game room and replaced it with the Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. Another wonderful TV and just a little bit bigger.

With its sleek shape and thin, piano-black frame, Samsung’s LN-T4053H enhances your décor even when it’s off. Turn it on, and this 40-inch LCD TV comes to life with brilliant colors and intense blacks, rendered in an 8000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Moving images flow naturally, thanks to the fast 8ms response time. SRS TruSurround XT(TM) audio, emanating from hidden bottom speakers, fills the room with clear, nuanced, virtual surround 3-D sound. Enjoy the versatility of a wide range of A/V inputs, including 3 HDMI ports, USB 2.0, and PC inputs that allow connectivity to many of your digital devices. And to control it all, the handy HMDI-CEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote.
Samsung LNT4053H 40-Inch LCD HDTV Specifications
Offering an unparalleled sleek design and one of the best 720p LCD panels available, Samsung’s 2007 model LNT4053H 40-inch flat-panel LCD HDTV is an updated successor the super popular 2006 model LNS4051D. Compared to the previous year’s model this one offers an updated cosmetic design, a better contrast ratio at 8000:1, a swivel stand, hidden speakers, side A/V inputs, and 3 HDMI connections.
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.
High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
- Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
- TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
- The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

Dead after 18 months – Mr. Remmy W. Kinyanjui – Oxford, UK If you haven’t taken out insurance for this model, do so …now.
The TV has served me well, gaming is nice, picture quality is ok (you’ll need to fiddle with the settings through), sound is average…Very little Bass.
Then the annoying things.
1. When you hit the button to change sources you are taken through loads of options that are not active. For the life of me I can’t understand why I need to see the DTV source and the TV source. It should only show you the sources connected to the TV but this set has a mind of its own.
2. Power Up. There’s an annoying white/blueish light that comes on at the bottom of the unit. Its very distracting and has not aesthetic appeal whatsoever. In face it looks as if the light from the LCD crystals are leaking through a fault.
3. From the time you press the power on button to the time you actually get a picture, you could make a cup of tea. Heaven forbid that you accidentally hit power off in the middle of some interesting news story…by the time the TV boots up again, the story is over.
4. Remote layout. For some reason Samsung have decided that you will always access its proprietary buttons. Why they couldnt hide the sync buttons is a mystery to me. They only work if you have a samsung dvd player.
5. Game Mode. This does nothing to improve the picture, sound or look and feel of the games.
6. Movie mode. Someone should tell Samsung that Movies are no longer recoreded in Sepia. Its just horrible.
Even though its good for the money, once you had it in my home there were just too many things I was not happy with.
Then after all that the damn thing died on me!
When I turn the power on, I can hear the customary click and instead of the expected secondary click and picture…it just keeps clicking and turning itself off. I checked online forums and it appears to be a problem with samsung TV’s. There’s a class action lawsuit in America since the problem only
Overall good tv for the price – Paul Wright – OK USA I bought it a yr ago so there are probably newer models but it works great and I think it looks sharp.
+ Picture quality ( not the best I have seen but really good) + style. I Like the shape of the TV. + fairly light and thin + all the inputs I need + Has lots of settings to play with - not 1080 P - Dust is very visible on TV
Best – S. Katakdound – Herndon, VA This is the best 1 grant I have ever spent, and its worth every single cent. Quality is top notch, looks are stylish and elegant.
Very Nice 720P – Jim in Arizona – Tucson, Az. USA I got this TV a couple years ago. I’d looked at it in the store, and I thought the picture was OK for what I was willing to spend. In addition, I have a 1080P Mistubishi, and 3 other 720P TV’s in the house (I know – that’s a sad commentary on our way of life …) and this unit has the best picture of the 720P units (the others being a 40″ Sharp a 32″ Insignia and a 32″ Dynex). Most of our TV viewing is either DirecTV or DVD’s. The Samsung’s picture is not quite as good as the 1080P Mistubishi, but its a close second and much better than the others. For the money, this Samsung was a very good buy.

Vizio E420VO 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Black Review
My wife and I bought this TV at Walmart for 8. It is our first HDTV. We looked at a lot of them in various stores. I did a considerable amount of research and we finally decided on this one. Thought about a 120HZ model but didn’t want to spend the extra money. It fits our budget and we are very satisfied with the quality and functionality. Don’t have a blu-ray player yet but have watched standard DVDs with component video connection and picture quality is very very good. Streamed a Netflix movie or two in from our PC via HDMI cable and have viewed a considerable amount of satellite and over-the-air programming for the last month or so. Both standard def and HD picture quality, very nice. The volume leveling function is not perfect but it does help quite a bit. Sound with built-in speakers is good. Menus are user friendly and easy to navigate. Overall we are very pleased and would recommend this product to others.

LG 26LG40 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with Built-in DVD Player Review
I wanted a tv to mount on my bedroom wall and decided on this one. The slim design is good. The picture is excelent. The picture from the dvd player is excelent. The one draw back is the sound is so “quiet” when watching a DVD movie. The sound does not seem to increase higher than the fifty percent level even though the volume is truned up to one hundred percent. The sound from the TV chanels is fine. It is a good thing that my hearing is ok.

lg great tv’s – Gina M. Estremo – Windsor, NY this is my second lg lcd tv..their picture is just remarkable. that’s what made me buy this tv..it is very attractive also..gloss black frame and a nice dark red at the bottom.. dvd player is great too.. sound could be a little better but this is only a 26 inch tv for my bedroom…
NOISE, NOISE and more NOISE DVD PLAYER – RuralJohn – Prague, Oklahoma Pros: Very attractive design, ease of having dvd player in tv, picture quality great, good price.
Cons:LOUD,LOUD,LOUD background noise when using the dvd player…..dvd player ‘drive’ no matter what volume you use is very noisey and if you turn the volume up the DVD noise gets worse, will not stream video in HD for instance when using ‘ROKU-HD, Netflix player’,have had difficulty in getting the DVD to eject frequently……..DVD works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t……all of these problems from the ‘get go’ and I have used this TV for over a year.
Outstanding buy – Satisfied – ATLANTA, GEORGIA USA This TV I bought for my husband for Christmas. He has it in his home office and LOVES IT. The body is very attractive. The picture and sound are great. It is also a very nice feature to have the built-in DVD. We are both more than pleased with this purchase. It was a great value for the money.
Worst sound ever – R. Pizzo – Nevada LG really blew it on this one. They boast about the invisable speakers as a feature but they may as well be non existant. At max volume it was still low and distorted. Returned it for the sharp 32” well worth the extra money.

Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-40S2010 40-Inch LCD HDTV Review
I live in a rural area, and could not get any store to deliver a television to me. Even delivery companies would not deliver a television in particular. Amazon came through with shining colors. The delivery was prompt – understand that the delivery company will CALL by telephone for an appointment. I waited for an email for longer than I had to prior to checking my phone messages, whereupon I found the Television waiting to be delivered. The service was very good, if not “white glove.” The delivery man offered to help me take the television inside, which was nice – but he’s certainly wasn’t familiar with the television set, and so I didn’t want him to hook it up.
The television arrived in in perfect shape, and performs spectacularly.
Why this set is special:
- Picture quality is superior coming from this television’s image processing software.
- Exterior of the television is matte black, not reflective lacquer like Samsung and Sharp. That reflection is distracting from the picture.
Looking at this sony as well as a Sharp and Samsung that had better specs on paper (higher resolution), this television’s picture quality was superior. The Sony has better image processing software/hardware built in so that it “cleans up” standard input signals AND cleans up compressed mpeg image quality (from less-than-perfect DVD’s). That really made the difference in my purchasing decision. The numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. When researching HD Televisions, be sure you check the type of input and ensure that the settings on the television are calibrated to that input. This is where Sony really excels.
Another commenter mentioned that standard DVD’s looked better after purchasing an “upconverting” DVD player. This is very key. The one that I have found to be close to perfect is made by Oppo : OPPO DV-970HD Up-Converting Universal DVD Player
The connection by HDMI is also key. A lovely signal transmitting through a mediocre line is wasted.
Still, as with any HD television, the connection between the two machines must be made carefully. When I changed the output of the DVD player from 480p (standard DVD) to 720p, the image quality improved RADICALLY. – Then I looked to ensure that “noise filtering” was off (default setting is “low” ) – and once turned off (no need to filter a gorgeous signal)… the picture is flawless – well as close to that as I need. The good news is that one can save settings for a particular input. So that once you set your settings for the DVD player, you aren’t required to adjust them again. Though, DVD’s vary and changing settings accordingly may do some good.
The control menus are easy to navigate, and after a few minutes of figuring, one will be very comfortable trying this setting or that.
Overall, the television and the delivery were both superlative.
I couldn’t be happier.

Afterall, Sony is the best for a reason – Karlie L. Ilaria – Rockaway, NJ We love this TV. I bought a Sony rear projection 60″ for my family room about 4 years ago and have never regretted it. So naturally when it came time to buy a big one for the bedroom, we upgraded in technology and stuck with Sony. When you’re spending this much on a TV, pay a little more for the best. I research all my high ticket purchases so I expected the quality to be as good as it is. We don’t have it hooked up to surround side or an HD box and you’d never know it. The picture is crystal clear. We’ve had the tv for about a year and no complaints yet. We feel like we’re at the movies when we lay in bed.
It is also very light and thin. I am a 125 pound woman and I can lift it myself. Perfect if you have the wall space but don’t want to take up too much room.

When I got home I thought that the Picture would suffer as I only have a Standard Antenna to pick up local Stations. However, I was amazed at the picture and brought in my Nieghbor whom works for verizon on the Fiber Optics line. he stated that there is no better image engine then what the Sony Bravia Creates. - Summary: BEST LCD TV for the Money! Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-40V3000 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Specifications
Immerse yourself in outstanding color reproduction and 1080p picture quality with the KDL-40V3000 LCD Flat Panel HDTV. BRAVIA V-Series televisions are where Full HD 1080 starts. Performance functions like Live Color Creation and the 10-bit panel display assure picture quality, while BRAVIA Theatre Sync offers easy one-button operation for enjoying a Sony A/V system. Add a sparkling new black picture frame design, quiet operation, and you have the new BRAVIA V-Series HDTV.
Full HD 1080p Resolution When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels8 (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content that can be delivered by our cutting edge 1080p Blu-ray disc player. And working with BRAVIA Engine EX everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p6 for a picture so real it’s like you’re actually there. 10-bit Processing and 10-bit Display While it’s great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors it’s a whole lot better when you have a display that can actually display them. That’s the logic behind Sony’s 10-bit processor and 10-bit display. Sony follows 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression than an 8-bit panel. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced.
BRAVIA Engine EX Full Digital Video Processor The BRAVIA Engine EX full digital video processing system is based on Sony’s renowned BRAVIA Engine video processing system. It has all of the same functions of BRAVIA Engine plus the added ability to upconvert 480i standard definition signals via Digital Reality Creation Multi Function v1.0 technology for a picture with more detail and definition.
Live Color Creation System featuring WCG-CCFL Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it’s actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That’s what Live Color Creation technology is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine EX video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony’s phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture.
Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) Function Sony’s Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) builds on our excellent on-contrast ratio performance of 1600:11. A Dynamic Contrast Ratio of up to 13,000:12 is achieved by using real-time image processing to adjust the contrast along with optimizing backlight levels. But rather than focus on the “numbers”, Sony focuses on actual picture performance avoiding exaggerated blacks where detail can be lost. ACE translates to blacker blacks in darker scenes, as well as better shadow detail in other scenes for a difference that you can see.
24p True Cinema (24p Input Capability) Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sonywisely takes advantage of this by including 24p output capability on their BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc player. It makes sense that select 2007 BRAVIA TVs will include 24p input capability. The benefit? Images are smooth and natural looking. Once you experience 24p video it will be hard to view video without it.
DMex – Ready (Digital Module Extender) Sony’s Digital Media Extender (DMex) ready televisions offer a digital connection path for the addition of optional modules like the new BRAVIA Internet Video Link.7 With innovative DMex expansion capabilities featuring the Emmy award winning XMB user interface, select 2007 models are not merely TVs, but powerful entertainment platforms that not only meet your needs today, but expand easily to meet tomorrow’s needs as well.
Xross Media Bar (XMB) When was the last time you saw an on-screen display that was fast, fun and easy to use? Sony’s award-winning Xross Media Bar (pronounced Cross) interface provides a logical and fast way to access set up menus, user controls, and more. The on-screen display comes to life by pushing the XMB menu button on the remote. Navigation through the menus is smooth and fast.
BRAVIA Theatre Sync Sony created BRAVIA Theatre Sync to go beyond basic digital audio and video transmission. Based on the HDMI-CEC function. BRAVIA Theatre Sync will be included on select BRAVIA Theatre home A/V systems and components. This useful function reduces the hassle and time consuming job of powering up, routing signals, etc. to the simple push of one button. Sony calls this nifty feature BRAVIA Theatre Sync. Here’s how it works. Want to play a DVD on your Sony A/V system? Easy, just push PLAY on the BRAVIA HDTV remote and everything is taken care of for you. Even when the system is off! Want to change from TV sound to digital surround sound through your Sony BRAVIA Theatre A/V system? Just one push of the Theater Sound button on the remote and voila, surround sound through your system. Want to power down everything once you’ve finished enjoying it? Push one button and the TV and A/V system powers down. BRAVIA Theatre Sync helps make things a whole lot easier to operate.
S-Force Front Surround-2 Built around a sophisticated set of Sony algorithms, the S-Force Front Surround enhancement function generates realistic surround sound from the two speakers in the TV. Unlike some other “virtual surround” technologies, sound does not need to be bounced off of side walls or other surfaces to hear three-dimensional sound. No matter what the size or shape of the room it’s possible to hear sounds from behind you.
HDMI and PC Connectivity Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA V-Series LCD TVs are equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide superb image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (3) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input 4(HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.
ATSC Integrated Tuner Receive local, over-the-air digital broadcasts of high-definition network programming; no set top box or monthly fee required.
